“Programs” are either instructional classes, small study groups, or one-on-one meetings that each Center will conduct for varying periods of time. Availability of program depends on level of demand and availability of instructional staff.

Booklings
Booklings is a reading club that encourages students of all ages to develop their interest in literature. Clubs will be formed at each Center based on grade level and availability of a Club leader. Each club is provided with a suggested reading list. Once a book is selected, club members are expected to finish reading the book within a predetermined period of time. After the reading is completed, club members engage in discussion, to be followed by either a writing assignment or short comprehension test.

Art Club
A Summer Session program designed to help children explore their creativity through various art projects.

Statewide Assessment Tests
The No Child Left Behind Act requires standardized testing in English and Math skills for all grades in every state. Most schools and teachers provide enough test-taking practice and material for students to do well on the test. However, if you feel your child needs a little more help, we can set up short-term study groups to provide a little more instruction. Available during school year.

Junior High Essay
A supplementary, instructional writing program for Advanced Reading and Writing. This program serves as a means for junior high school students to fine-tune and master their essay writing abilities.

CTY Prep
Johns Hopkins’ Center for Talented Youth (CTY) offers summer programs for grades 2 to 12. The most popular programs in this area are the summer residential programs for 7th and 8th graders. In order to be eligible for CTY, students must score above a preset ACT or SAT score.
Each Center will provide study groups (during the Summer and Fall/Winter Sessions) to familiarize and prepare students with the ACT and SAT.

SAT Quick Prep
Quick Prep is an accelerated SAT review program designed for students who have limited time to prepare for the test. Instruction for this program is centered on the College Board’s Official SAT Study Guide™

Mini Sessions
Mini Sessions are one-week programs offered during school vacation periods. Review classes in SAT, SAT Subject Tests, or APs are offered depending on which tests are upcoming.

Study Groups
For students who prefer not to study in a large class or have a particular school-specific subject to study, Study Groups in various subjects can be arranged by each Center depending on space and instructor availability.

Private Tutoring
One-on-one private tutoring can be arranged for most grade school, junior high, and high school subjects depending on availability of tutors.

College Consulting
A program created for juniors that continues until their senior year. The goals are to prepare students for the college application process. Each student has periodic one-on-one meetings with a consultant to perform college searches, develop application strategies, and review applications. Students also join in the college application essay workshops.
